With chapter 5 done and only one to go, here's a preview of the cover image. It's been in the database for ages now, because I started this and wrote the first three chapters in nothing flat. Then it stalled on me *laugh* Already have image templates for all the chapters ( 1 will be represented by the cover ) with 2&3 actually complete and ready to go. It becomes more and more likely by the day that this one will begin posting shortly after the first of the year.

This is as much of a note to myself as anything. The cover images on the RR Hot Shorts section need to be set up to default to "on" rather than "off" as they do on the Dark side of the site. Lazy me all but copied the code from the Dark Shorts section of the page, and forgot to account for that.

The new version of the stop spammers app has a lot of logging attached. If you look down at the bottom of the forum at the statistics, you can see one of them - a running tally of spammers blocked by the app since the new version was installed on Dec. 02. Currently, it's at a little less than 8 per day. That doesn't count the odd registration here and there that the second layer of spam protection catches. Keep in mind that any blocked registration goes into the ban list for a period of time. That means that the spammers can't simply keep using the same information and pathways. The ones who try that hit the ban screen before they hit the registration screen, and thus don't end up in the statistics. It also doesn't count an approximately equal number of spammers blocked by the blog every day, and that's actually double, because I get them on both my Dark blog and my RR one. The information from the blog spammers rarely correlates with the forum spammers, so it's probably unique attacks. Sometimes, the information does match between the two blogs. It all boils down to blocking about 20 attempts to spam my site per day, and I'm a backwater by any definition of the term. I can't imagine how many attacks a site like Lit or Lush has to fend off. All this to post messages that are more or less ignored by regular people when they do manage to appear, because they're so obviously spam ( usually in broken Google translate English ) and more often than not useless as link spam, because Google is forever filtering new iterations of that. It's plum crazy

"Yeah, we're gonna have to kill the fish tank." Still LMAO. Really enjoying this series. It already felt very much like a seamless part of the Marvel movie universe, but this week's cameo at the end really cemented that well. Not going to say who the cameo was to prevent spoilers. I'm fond of all the characters, and the threads they're establishing for the wider plots of the show are certainly intriguing. Coulson is an utterly brilliant character, and whoever was the first to dream him up deserves a lot of credit for tying this entire universe together. If you haven't given it a try yet, the first episode is available for free on Hulu ( amongst other places ) As soon as I saw that, I put the whole season on order at Amazon.

From the beginning of "Friend", there was always a side-story building about Nathan's brother Tony. I cut it out of the working draft early in the process, but saved all the notes and everything. The only evidence of him in "Friend" is that Nathan is borrowing his truck. So now, I'm working on that story, which will be called "Memories of the Wood". I'm not sure yet whether it will be posted to the story sites, or whether it will be put on my "Shorts" page here. "Short" being a bit of a misnomer, considering how long some of them are getting *laugh* I probably should have called it something else. Anyway... I'm winding down a little from the recent spurt of releases, but I'm still getting a few paragraphs down on this here and there. I'm not sure I'll concentrate on it, but for now, it's what's moving, because so much of it was thought out well in advance.

Had three spammers make it through the first layer of protection recently. Then they got nabbed by the second and auto-banned *laugh* Even if they'd managed to get through that one, they were unverified ( most likely because the email addys are fake ) and thus would have no posting privileges anyway. And, I typically check the database on questionable registrations a few days afterwards, anyway. Most often, they've showed up in the database by then, and I know I can safely delete them with extreme prejudice. I can't even imagine what the onslaught must be like for a big site.

Updated the map a little as well, now that I'm moving to the West a little in the area. Probably going to add the horse farm from "Secret" in there across the "street" before long as well. Start pinning down what's on the other side of the road.
